Modes of Transportation

There are a few ways to get from point A to point B here in the Philippines. From the crazy metal jeepneys (totally not spelling that right), the interestingly named taxis, your own two feet, having major connections and riding in someone's personal car, or a freezing cold bus all get you to where you need to go (or at least drop you off close enough to trek the rest of the way). So jeepneys are these half car half bus all metal diesel machines that somehow make it up the crazy steep mountain roads sardine-packed with like 20 people all squished on bench seats along the sides. The only "safety feature" you have is a pole on the roof to hang onto so you don't slip into the person's lap next to you. Adventurously wonderful. Now the taxis are not what are typically thought of as taxis, they are white little SUV-type cars with the craziest names on them. Examples include: Mother Teressa, Hydrocab, Octapussy (our fave so far) We jam pack four to nine of us in those little guys. Your two feet are of course very handy (catch that?). They're so reliable and are able to walk through the traffic and can go upstairs and cut through people with ease. When you meet someone who has a car and they let you ride in it, oh man! Prepare to pee yourself with excitement. Oh those buses! They are quite nice and clean and fairly comfortable for having to ride in them for 7+ hours but, it's almost like you have survived a blizzard when you step out of them. They are so insanely cold! Why they do this? I have no idea but I appreciate the choices of movies the played.
Farewell friends,
